New Swiss Franc 50 banknote unveiled today

The Swiss National Bank today unveiled the new CHF50 banknote, the first banknote of the ninth series of Swiss Francs to enter circulation. The note was presented to the public for the very first time, along with an explanation of the main design and security features. The note was printed by Orell Fussli on Landqart’s Durasafe® substrate.

The ninth series of banknotes from the Swiss National Bank is ground-breaking, as it moves away from the depiction of well-known personalities, favouring instead typically Swiss features, illustrated graphically using a key motif. The inspiration behind the new banknote series is ‘The many facets of Switzerland’.

As is characteristic for Swiss banknotes, the ninth series incorporates numerous security features, maintaining the country’s traditionally high standards for the security of its currency. Some of the features are tried and tested, but some are new, and incorporated into the note’s innovative, three-layer substrate (Durasafe). The new series offers a unique combination of complex security features and sophisticated design, making it difficult to counterfeit.
