New Commemorative Banknote in Cambodia

The National Bank of Cambodia Issues a 30,000 Riel Bankote to Mark the 30th Anniversary of the Paris Peace Accords

The 23rd of October, 2021, is the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords, which effectively ended the civil war that had raged in Cambodia for more than a decade, and paved the way for peace and democratic rule in the Asian country. To mark this landmark occasion the National Bank of Cambodia has announced the issue of a commemorative 30,000 Riel banknote, which will enter circulation by the end of the month.

The note, printed in predominantly green, purple, and brown tones, depicts on one side King Father Norodom Sihanouk linking hands with Prime Minister Hun Sen on their return to Phnom Penh after the Peace Accords, along with depictions of the Royal Palace, the Independence Monument, and the Eiffel Tower. The other side features King Father Norodom Sihanouk, surrounded by traditional naga.

Following the successful launch and issue the 15,000 Riel commemorative note in October 2019 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, the King of Cambodia, the National Bank has again chosen to showcase innovative technologies in the creation of the banknote. Landqart is especially delighted that the National Bank has renewed its trust in our paper-polymer composite substrate, Durasafe®.
